School Of Biblical Studies

OVERVIEW

One of our main goals in YWAM is to "Know God and make Him known." Our main desire for students within SBS is to really know God through His word to better equip them to make Him known. We believe that the more someone understands God's Word, the more they know His character and this is what we want the students to pass onto others when they are sharing the Gospel. This is so key and this is our desire for everyone who does the school. Our prayer for all who do SBS, is that the Spirit of God would bring transformation to their lives while they pursue Him in His Word.

The School of Biblical Studies (SBS) is unique as the focus is 100% on the Scriptures. It is a 9-month intensive study of the Bible, during which the student goes through all 66 books approximately 5 times to be able to study and understand its contents which is covered in the student’s independent study and class lectures. During their independant study times, the students use the inductive method to study the entire Word of God which allows the Scripture to speak for itself as they study it in context.

What does the inductive study method look like?

In practice, this means that students approach the Bible with an understanding of the historical and literary context of each book, creating opportunities for them to read it from the mind-set of the people it was originally written to. They will be taught and encouraged to ask questions that will help them determine the author’s intention, visualise what a verse meant for those that it was first written to and explore why it was important. After that they can extract the truth behind the passage then ask how it applies to people in the 21st century and how they can put what they have learned into practice within their own lives.

TESTIMONIES

The school helped me witness how alive the Bible really is and brought me to more of an understanding of the nature and character of God. It also gave me the tools to be able to study each book in it’s original context and it has allowed me to see practical ways to put God’s word into practice.

My wife and I came to Togo to attend the SBS and it really helped us reach our ministry goals in Kilifi, Kenya once we returned. It was a joy discovering authors, audience and purpose of each book and as a bonus, we ended up making friends from around the world!
